LAKE HOUSE RETREAT
Lake Alan Henry, Texas | Farm + Ranch
Lake Alan Henry is fed by the Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos River, where the Llano Estacado Escarpment dramatically drops off the Caprock into rugged badlands and breaks. The project site sits on a secluded peninsula extending into a narrow finger of the lake, surrounded by a landscape rich with grama and bluestem grasses, juniper, mesquite, and red cedar. Steep slopes lead down to the water’s edge, covered in native stone and alkaline soils prone to erosion. Unlike many man-made lakes in Texas, Lake Alan Henry prohibits docks, preserving its pristine, untouched character.
Envisioned as a weekend retreat that will eventually become a primary residence, the property is designed to foster a deep connection with the natural surroundings while accommodating family and friends. Potts Design Group provided design services for the entry gate and primary residence landscape, integrating low-impact strategies and the family’s love for fishing. The firm also developed pricing documents for the septic and geothermal fields and collaborated closely with the client to model both the primary residence and interior spaces, ensuring a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors.
