FARM + ART + RESIDENCE VISIONING
Project Type: Cultural Landscapes / Residential
Location: Mt. Vernon, Texas
Year: 2023
Size: 23 acres
This East Texas residence and working farm is rooted in permaculture practices, local food production, and a creative connection to the landscape. The design integrates agricultural systems, ecological stewardship, and spaces for art into a cohesive framework for sustainable living.
The landscape experience is organized through a series of pathways framed by existing tree lines, guiding movement through gateways defined by dry-stack stone walls, hugelkultur berms, groves, and cultivated plots. The site transitions between productive agricultural fields, native prairies, forested areas, and the creek corridor, creating a sequence of distinct landscapes that reveal the character of the property.
The conceptual design establishes a long-term framework for the evolution of the farm, supporting food production, soil health, habitat enhancement, artistic exploration, and a lasting connection between people and the land.
