BRUSHY CREEK DEVELOPMENT
Round Rock, Texas | Urban Design
This design proposal was developed in response to a City of Round Rock RFP for a site adjacent to downtown that spans both sides of historic Brushy Creek. The concept integrates public space with thoughtful development, building on the City’s acquisition of three additional parcels to create a cohesive civic destination. The plan includes a local business incubator, a permanent market space, and a central lawn that transitions seamlessly into the downtown area. A pedestrian bridge serves as the project’s focal point, connecting the north and south sides of the creek and enhancing overall circulation.
The design introduces three distinct park areas, a kayak launch, and a small mixed-use development on the northeast edge, complementing the park’s character. A circular circulation system, anchored by the bridge near the existing boutique hotel, allows users to easily navigate the Heritage Trail network while accessing key site amenities.
Terraced seating along the great lawn provides a flexible venue for community events and serves as a flood mitigation strategy at the creek’s pinch point. Development along the creek is intentionally limited to preserve ecological integrity, with a focus on higher elevations to the north where urban activity and open views of the landscape can coexist.
The project is designed with a scalable framework, allowing it to evolve alongside Round Rock’s continued growth. It aims to establish a regional destination for recreation, retail, dining, and community life while preserving the historic and environmental character of Brushy Creek.
