INDEPENDENT LIVING
Jacksonville, Florida | Residential
This project demonstrates the role of landscape architecture in creating functional, accessible, and engaging outdoor spaces for residents and guests.
The entry and drop-off sequence functions as a garden threshold, featuring a fountain, signage wall, and guest parking shaded by large palms with permeable paving. Pedestrian corridors lined with trees lead to the drop-off plaza, which is fully paved and flush for vehicle and shuttle access.
At the center of the property, the courtyard serves as the primary outdoor amenity. Organized along a central spine, it includes a pool with accessible ramp, shaded trellises, lounging areas, and a custom-tiled feature wall. A therapeutic hot tub and wall-mounted swim jets in the main pool enhance opportunities for wellness, therapy, and fitness.
The adjacent lawn provides flexible space for outdoor dining, yoga, games, and events. A steel trellis with a central fireplace offers a gathering area for groups of all sizes. The courtyard also connects to a park area intended to support future development.
Through careful design, the landscape promotes accessibility, recreation, and community engagement, enhancing daily life for residents and guests.
