MARFA ART PARK
Marfa, Texas | Civic
The Marfa Art Park is a design unrealized two-acre public space adjacent to a proposed artist studio campus. Designed to integrate art, nature, and community, the park serves as both a sculpture garden and a dynamic public space.
The artist studio campus features a three-level building with distinct functions. The ground floor hosts a public café and a mix of indoor and outdoor galleries showcasing the work of current artists. The second level provides studio spaces with expansive views of the landscape, including a large outdoor terrace for open-air creativity. The third level contains artist housing, offering semester-long residencies.
The outdoor spaces function as both a public park and an evolving sculpture garden, displaying permanent installations alongside temporary works by resident artists. Large stone walls define spatial rooms, framing views rather than enclosing spaces, guiding visitors through curated artistic and natural experiences.
The landscape design transitions from structured and geometric near the building, highlighting native plants as sculptural elements, to a wild, untamed state as it extends across the site, showcasing the same plant species in their natural form.
The Marfa Art Park is designed for both public and private events, fostering a dynamic intersection of art, nature, and community in an immersive environment that inspires creativity.
