NATURAL POOL
Abilene, Texas | Residential
Located in Abilene, Texas, this new residence is designed to complement an existing home, which will function as a guest house. The placement of the two structures frames an intimate inner courtyard, creating a distinctive spatial opportunity. The client requested a pool while remaining mindful of the environmental challenges of an arid climate. To address this, a compact natural pool is planned, featuring a self-sustaining filtration system that minimizes evaporation. Thoughtfully positioned between the two buildings, the pool integrates seamlessly with the courtyard, balancing functionality and ecological sensitivity.
On the main residence side, the patio extends to the pool’s edge, providing a smooth transition into the water. A boardwalk aligned with the guest house porch separates the primary swimming area from the natural filtration zone, while a raised water garden initiates the filtration process and serves as a visual focal point for the adjacent seating area. For safety and privacy, a lightweight wire mesh fence with climbing vines separates the pool from the guest house courtyard, ensuring protection for young children while allowing the main residence to enclose the pool area as desired.
Together, the design harmonizes architecture, landscape, and water features to create a serene, sustainable, and visually engaging courtyard that enhances both daily living and outdoor enjoyment.
