URBANBNB
Abilene, Texas | Residential
Located near downtown Abilene, this modern residence blends contemporary design with the character of its quiet neighborhood while embracing an urban edge. The project sets a new standard for single-family homes by creating a landscape that engages the street and community while maintaining privacy.
In addition to the primary residence, two small apartments at the back of the property, accessible via the alley, contribute to a shared communal space rather than a hidden backyard. Designed for both the family and tenants, this visible outdoor area fosters connection and interaction.
The front yard features a series of rain gardens that capture stormwater from the house and street. The gardens are planted with native species that attract butterflies and other pollinators. Interpretive signage educates passersby about water harvesting and ecological stewardship. A family tree planted at the entrance symbolizes the completion of a new home and the family’s deep roots in the community.
