FOREST RETREAT
Fairview, Texas | Residential
Once part of a larger ranch, this forest retreat embraces the land’s history while offering a modern escape. Though the property has been subdivided over time, traces of its past remain, including a fire ring, remnants of a picnic table, and a half-buried truck mark where the original ranching family once gathered. Historical imagery shows their home stood just a few hundred yards away.
Despite its modest size, the site feels like a true getaway. The owner envisions it as a personal retreat for quiet mornings with coffee and meaningful gatherings with loved ones. Inspired by the ranch’s heritage, the design centers around a deconstructed silo, transforming it into a multi-functional hideaway.
Positioned where the original family retreat once stood, the new design features a fire pit seating area and a large hammock, embracing the land’s legacy. The silo’s base houses a bar, seating, meal prep space, and storage beneath a spiral staircase leading to a treetop observatory and lounge with panoramic forest views.
Terraced low walls shape the landscape, reducing creek erosion while creating seating, game areas, and intimate spaces. The house remains tucked behind the silo’s back wall, keeping the focus on the creek and the surrounding woods. This thoughtful design weaves history, nature, and leisure into a truly immersive retreat.
