MOLSEN FARM MASTER PLAN
Allen, Texas | Civic
2023 Texas ASLA Award of Excellence Design Unrealized
The increasing demand for food has driven the rise of industrialized farming, large-scale animal domestication, intensive irrigation, genetically modified crops, and the widespread use of fertilizers and chemicals. While these advancements have enhanced food production and accessibility, they have also distanced consumers from the origins, preparation, and contents of their food.
Molsen Farm represents an agricultural revival, preserving the last 88 acres of farmland in Allen, Texas. Designed as a hub for community engagement, the farm will provide hands-on agricultural education, crop demonstrations, and sustainable farming practices, promoting organic alternatives and fostering a deeper connection to food production.
The site’s master plan will seamlessly integrate with the existing Rowlett Creek trail system while preserving key natural features, including a historic pecan grove, riparian forest, tree-lined entryway, and two ponds. Planned amenities include an educational facility, a maintenance facility, a city forestry department tree farm, community gardens, and flexible event spaces for public and private gatherings. Additionally, the farm will host a farmers market and offer day camping opportunities for local scout groups, further enriching its role as a vibrant community asset.
